With COVID-19 driving a rapid acceleration and acceptance of virtual education, alternative models of K-12 education are in the spotlight like never before. Online options that were previously considered ‘less than’, including virtual schools, a la carte options, and online professional development for teachers, are now of deep interest to ministries, districts, school leaders, teachers and parents – for a variety of different reasons. Will this exposure cause alternative models to become mainstream? And will alternative models help traditional schools provide better educational and life outcomes for more students?
