More than 93% of the available lands in the Greater Chaco Region have already been leased for industrialized fracking. The forthcoming documentary will feature the people that are fighting to save the last 7%.
Despite the current pandemic that is devastating Diné and Pueblo communities, the BLM continues to pursue further leasing in the small fraction of lands that remain.
We Are Greater Chaco highlights grassroots Diné and Pueblo efforts to protect the Greater Chaco landscape and its living communities and cultures from fracking. The forthcoming film centers the voices of Indigenous community members leading this fight.
We were almost two years into producing a feature-length documentary when the COVID 19 pandemic hit all of us.
The Navajo Nation has over 330,000 enrolled citizens, with over 170,000 bilingual Diné Bizaad speakers and at least 7,600 citizens who are monolingual Diné Bizaad speakers.
