YoYo Men – The Blue Blot Band
(features the original musicians* of the eighties/nineties line-up)
‘YoYo Men – The Blue Blot Band’ is zoals de naam al laat doorschijnen, de heropleving van Blue Blot, de groep rondom de in 1996 overleden zanger L
Blue Blot saw the light of day in 1986 and had its international breakthrough in 1991 with the LP/CD ‘Bridge To Your Heart’ which achieved the golden status. The subsequent albums ‘Where Do We Go’, the re-released very first LP from 1987 ‘Shopping For Love’, the collector ‘September’, the double CD/video ‘Blue Blot Live’ and ‘Yo Yo Man’ were also succesful thanks to the hit singles and the invariably sold-out shows. Though, in 1993 all activities of the band had to be put on hold due to Luke’s disease. In view of his improving health, he recorded a solo CD ‘Back To Normal’ but he unfortunally died shortly after the tour to promote that record. Hard times came for Blue Blot. The band nevertheless continued for several years with different vocalists, but Luke’s voice left such a huge mark on the sound that it couldn’t be matched. In 2000 ‘The Best Of Blunk’ was released and the remaining members did a number of shows before finally but reluctant pull the plug. That Best Of was re-released in 2008 on the Sony/BMG label under the name ‘Hit Collection’.
Because Blue Blot’s music remained alive through the years and thus gaining a new generation of fans, the demand for the band increased. In 2018, manager Wilfried Brits called the six remaining former members together to breathe new life into the group, to release a remake of the single ‘YoYo Man’ and to do a series of successful try-outs. In addition, two new singles were released in November 2019: ‘Brave Heart’ and ‘Blunk Tonight’. The first comes from Tony Joe White, he previously wrote songs for Blue Blot and was also a close friend of Luke. Tony died suddenly in 2018 and his widow Leann gave a demo of ‘Brave Heart’ to the band with the message to turn it into something beautiful in the spirit of Tony and Luke. ‘Blunk Tonight’ was written by former Blue Blot guitarist and band leader Marty Townsend who also produced both songs for which he came from Calfornia where he now lives again. Two typical Blue Blot songs but with a contemporary twist.
