Joe Brinkmann is the Manager of Production Attraction and Support at the Victorian state government’s screen support agency, Film Victoria (https://www.film.vic.gov.au). Originally from the USA but now based in Melbourne, Joe oversees key policy implementation for attracting and supporting both local and international film production. In this interview with Monash Screen Lecturer Billy Head, Joe discusses the role the state agency plays in encouraging media projects to develop, film and finish production in the state of Victoria, the way that the COVID19 shutdowns hit the production industries particularly hard, the ways the Victorian screen industry has responded to the pandemic and how plans have been developed to allow the industry to safely return to production as the restrictions are lifted.
Joe Brinkmann graduated in Film Production from the University of Southern California and worked as co-producer at Elixir films and Director Business Affairs and Production at Showtime in the USA. In 2015 he joined Film Victoria in where he is currently Manager, Production Attraction & Support.
