The Edinburgh Guitar Night is a recurring event showcasing the best guitar talent from local and international acts.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has meant that musicians everywhere lost all of their income overnight. Live events such as those we have at EGN are out of the question right now. However, there are fabulous musicians all over the world, and though we might not be able to bring them to Scotland in person, we can have amazing guitar concerts from them virtually!

We have teamed up with some absolute guitar superstars from Europe, USA and beyond. The videos from our far-flung pals will be exclusively for Edinburgh Guitar Night. All the profits will go directly to the artists, and hopefully be a small way of helping them through these uncertain times.

The first in the Lockdown Series features:

Vicki Genfan

Playing her own percussive technique of ‘slap-tap’ acoustic guitar, Vicki Genfan has been showcased as one of the world’s top guitarists at festivals such as The International Montreal Jazz Festival, Germany’s Open Strings Guitar Festival, Italy’s Soave Guitar Festival and hundreds of venues and Performing Arts Centers across the US and abroad.

Vicki was one of the featured artists on La Guitara, a CD featuring the world’s top female guitarists across all styles. She was also the first woman to win Guitar Player magazine’s Guitar Superstar Competition, after competing against nine other world-class players in front of celebrity judges.

In addition to being a dazzling instrumentalist, Vicki is an award-winning singer/songwriter with a highenergy stage presence. Drawing from folk, jazz, pop, soul and world music, whether covering the tunes of others or presenting her own compositions, Vicki has a distinctive style that pushes the boundaries of the singer/songwriter genre into new territories.

Shane Hennessy

Irish virtuoso guitarist Shane Hennessy has established himself as one of the leading guitarists on the world stage, known widely for his fingerstyle, flatpicking, and percussive guitar-playing approaches. His energetic live performances and his cinematically-vivid compositions tie in influences from Bach to Beyoncé – and everything in between! With a unique style of solo guitar playing that encompasses the range of a whole band – covering drums, bass, rhythm and lead lines – Shane builds a complete sonic world entirely on his own, drawing comparisons to virtuosos Chris Thile and Tommy Emmanuel.

Shane has sold out a solo concert in the National Concert Hall in Dublin, released three highly-praised albums, Zephyrus (2015), Marrakech (2017), and Rain Dance (2020), has worked with Bill Whelan (composer of Riverdance) and has done extensive international touring across Europe, The United States, and Russia, including performances at MerleFest, Milwaukee Irish Fest, MusikMesse Festival, and many more. Shane has also featured at Folk Alliance International, and is endorsed by Maton Guitars (Melbourne, Australia).

Karlijn Langendijk

Karlijn is a guitarist and composer from Uitgeest, The Netherlands. Her music is not just happy or sad – she composes all the intricate shades of emotions that people feel really intensely but cannot communicate in words. As a guitarist & composer, she is fascinated by all kinds of different music genres and she mixes all these together into a completely unique style. She has shared the stage with musicians like Tommy Emmanuel and Peter Finger, and has toured in Europe, China and India. In November 2015 she won the first prize and the audience prize at the “SAI Acoustic Guitar Competition” in the Czech Republic. She played in the finals of the “Acoustic Guitarist of the Year 2018” competition in London.

In 2018 she cofounded MusiSHEans – a community to support and empower female musicians who should be heard for their music and not be judged on their looks or sex appeal. In November 2019, she was part of the MusiSHEans Announcement Tour throughout Europe.
